Database problem (MDAC/WinDAC)

Sandra management console or Sandra service (agent) complain that they cannot access the database, possibly due to MDAC problems.

It seems the MDAC/WinDAC (database components) are damaged or their registration is damaged. Sadly it is very sensible and prone to such mishaps as it is not protected by Windows' protection system.

  • MDAC on Windows 2000, XP, 2003: please follow the steps below:
    1. Try registering the Jet/Access libs manually by typing in a console/command prompt: regsvr32 MsJetOleDb40.dll
    2. Please see this good explanation from Microsoft's own forums MDAC issue or here MDAC XP fix.

"first, locate the mdac.inf file in "c:\windows\inf"; right click and install when prompted for a location, point to "c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386" then when prompted for the XP CD, either load the CD or point to ":\i386" folder"

  • WinDAC on Windows Vista, 2008: we have not found a solution at this time, sorry.

  • We have not found an easy solution to this problem. It seems the MDAC/WinDAC (database components) registration is damaged which causes the database server to crash. As with most major Windows problems, a Windows reinstall is the only sure way to fix this issue.
